You'll see our logo all over our website and ebay store, it was first penned in 2003 and styled so it was easy to replicate without the image file to hand. In 2003 phenoptix was started with £20 and very little free time, as a way to make a bit of pocket money for an impoverished student.

The name phenoptix comes from jamming together the prefix pheno and the word optics, exchanging the cs with an x to make the company look edgy and modern. Pheno is a term commonly used in Chemistry and usually denotes the presence of an aromatic Benzene ring in a chemical compound. What is less well known is where the term comes from and what it actually means. Pheno is from the Greek Phaino, meaning to appear, show forth, to bear or bring to light.

It is so used in chemistry as Benzene was first obtained by Michael Faraday from the condensate of decomposing whale oil, then commonly used as lamp gas, the substance that bore light in 1825. So in phenoptix the pheno part means that we bear light, as in we sell lights, simple. Optics is the branch of physics that deals with the properties of light, we deal primarily in light so we thought it fitted together well. You'd be surprised at how few people can actually pronounce the name though! Phen-optix. You can say it as fen optics if you like. It has nothing to do with Pheonixs or however you pluralise them.

We are an LED retailer. We specialise in light emitting diodes which we sell on this website and through eBay, where at the time of writing (March 2011) we have a

feedback score of 31,115 with 18 neutrals and 6 negatives. We've done our best to address the issues of all of the neutrals and negatives we've received and hope we won't get any more.

In fact we're doing more than hoping, we're working very hard to make sure every customer receives what they wanted to receive in the time frame they expected and at the price they agreed to pay. Customer satisfaction is at the core of what we do.

Boiling it down again. We put the stuff you want into bags and send them to you quickly at a fair price.
